The UK is deficient in a number of nutrients – with a whopping 96 per cent of us not meeting the daily fibre recommendation. To help people get more of the nutrients they need M&S Food has launched Nutrient Dense – a new range of salads, drinks, snacks and meals that are packed with fibre, vitamins and minerals.
Crafted from delicious whole foods and store cupboard ingredients, these 20 products are bursting with flavour, fibre, vitamins and minerals. Each recipe has been developed from a curated larder of 250 purposeful ingredients, carefully selected by our in-house nutritionists and chefs, then combined to deliver M&S trusted quality and taste.
Each product also contains at least 1 of 10 micronutrients such as vitamin D, iron, folate and vitamin B12 that many people are lacking in the diet. They’re also high in or a source of fibre, calorie controlled and have our Eat Well seal of approval so you can confidently know you’re making a healthy and balanced choice. We developed the Nutrient Dense nutrition criteria in consultation with the British Nutrition Foundation (BNF).
Nutrient dense foods are those that provide a more concentrated source of vitamins, minerals, fibre, healthy fats and protein relevant to their calorie content. This new range does exactly that, making it easier for the us to pack more nutrients into their diet, whether you have a low appetite or are focused on hitting your health goals.
M&S Head of Food Trends,AnnettePeters, says:“The Nutrient Dense range issoexciting and is also incredibly useful for anyone trying to hit their nutritional targets. It is also great if customers are reducing their food intake, such as those using weight-loss medication. We know the use of GLP-1 medications is growing, so it’s more important than ever to ensure that even if people are eating smaller portions, we help provide them with the right level of nutrients. We have challenged ourselves to make products that aredenserin nutrients than calories, so every single mouthful is packed full of more of the good stuff we all need.”
She continues: “The importance of us all eating enough fibre cannot be overestimated. As well as helping day to day with effective digestion, long term it is important to reduce the risk of bowel cancer and so many other diseases. Products such as our Nutrient Dense Super Seeded Bread, which has 13g of fibre in two slices, are aimed at making it super easy for customersto reach the recommended 30g a day.”
The Nutrient Dense range is available in M&S Foodhalls from January 5th 2026. It features the H₅O shot, salads, meals and bread. The H₅O shot is made with coconut water, which is a source of naturally occurring electrolytes, blended with cold-pressed ginger juice, fruit and vegetable fibres, sea moss and a unique combination of botanicals – panax ginseng, Japanese honeysuckle, ginger, yellow passionfruit and green cardamom.
We have called it H₅O because of these five botanical ingredients, which have been selected and verified by scientists at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. It also contains 4g of fibre from baobab and Jerusalem artichoke in just one shot and is high in iodine, from trendy ingredient of the moment sea moss.
