Lidl Northern Ireland has today announced a further £756,000 boost in employee pay, building on the £2.3 million investment announced earlier this year, and reinforcing its position as the highest paying supermarket retailer in the region.
This latest targeted investment focuses on Deputy Store Managers and hourly-paid colleagues across Lidl’s network of 44 stores and distribution centre in Northern Ireland, ensuring competitive pay rates are maintained in key frontline and leadership roles.
Employees will benefit from an average pay increase of between 2-5%, with hourly-paid colleagues seeing an uplift in their rate to £13.30 — significantly above the UK National Living Wage of £12.71. The increases, which came into effect from 1st May 2026, will result in an average additional annual take-home pay of £480 for hourly-paid employees and £710 for Deputy Store Managers.
Lidl Northern Ireland has consistently invested in employee pay in recent years, with total investment now exceeding £11 million since 2022 — ensuring colleagues continue to see tangible increases in their take-home pay during a challenging cost-of-living environment. As part of Lidl’s ongoing commitment to investing in its people, a further 1% investment in the retailer’s comprehensive employee benefits package is planned later this year.
Gordon Cruikshanks, Regional Managing Director at Lidl Northern Ireland, said:
“Earlier this year, we made a significant investment in pay for all colleagues across our Northern Ireland business. This latest increase reflects our continued focus on ensuring our most customer-facing and operational roles remain among the best rewarded in the market.
“At Lidl Northern Ireland, our people are central to everything we do. We are committed to recognising the contribution of our colleagues through competitive pay and industry-leading benefits, while supporting them in their day-to-day lives.
“We know there is more to value than just pay alone — it’s about creating an environment where our colleagues feel supported, can grow their careers, and are recognised for the role they play in delivering for our customers every day.”
Lidl Northern Ireland employs more than 1,300 people across its network of 44 stores and its Regional Distribution Centre in Nutts Corner, and is currently recruiting for 150 roles across the business.
The retailer has been recognised as a Top Employer by the Top Employers Institute for five consecutive years, and remains the only retailer in Northern Ireland to receive the accreditation, underlining its commitment to a better world of work through industry-leading pay, benefits and people practices.
Alongside competitive pay, Lidl Northern Ireland continues to offer one of the most comprehensive benefits packages in the retail sector, supporting colleagues at every stage of life — from enhanced family leave and fertility support to inclusive workplace policies and wellbeing initiatives — delivering more to value for its people as well as its customers.
