Thema Collection presents Amba Yaalu Kandalama: Sri Lanka’s first hotel complex entirely managed by women

23/05/2025

The beginning of 2025 marks a historic milestone for Sri Lankan hospitality with the opening of Amba Yaalu Kandalama, the country’s first hotel complex entirely run and managed bywomen. Nestled on the peaceful shores of Kandalama Lake, this innovative property was officially inaugurated by Mrs. Marie-Noëlle DURIS, Chargé d’Affaires of the French Embassy in Sri Lanka and the Maldives, in the presence of many prominent figures from the tourism sector. Inspired by the classic Sri Lankan novel Amba Yaluwo (“The Mango Friends”) and the golden age of Sri Lankan cinema, Amba Yaalu Kandalama elegantly blends cultural heritage with contemporary luxury. Located at the heart of a lush plantation with 457 TJC mango trees, the complex offers breathtaking views of the iconic Sleeping Soldier Mountain.

Its architecture integrates harmoniously with the natural environment, using a soothing palette of greens and blues to reflect the serene local landscape. The spacious and airy interiors encourage a total immersion in nature, providing guests with a refreshing and calming atmosphere.

A Tribute to Sri Lankan Women

A true symbol of female empowerment in the hospitality industry, Amba Yaalu Kandalama is committed to reducing inequalities and promoting inclusivity. Fully managed by women, this new establishment provides career opportunities to local women, highlighting their talent, strength, and resilience. This initiative aims to further encourage their participation in this dynamic sector.
