Yoga Quarter in Ballyhackamore has been welcoming people through its doors for almost a decade and if there is one date that always brings the community together, it’s the summer solstice.
Every June, as the longest day of the year arrives, people all over the world mark the summer solstice, a tradition that celebrates the changing of the seasons and the arrival of summer. This year, Yoga Quarter will once again gather at Seapark in Holywood for an evening of movement, connection and community beside Belfast Lough.
The event centres around 108 Sun Salutations, a yoga tradition practised around the world. But there is no pressure to complete all 108. This isn’t about perfection or performance. It’s about taking part in whatever way feels right for you, moving your body, enjoying the beautiful surroundings and taking up your own space surrounded by others.
Susan McEwen, founder of Yoga Quarter, says: ‘Weather permitting, this is a very special way to spend a summer evening. The summer solstice has become a really special tradition for us at Yoga Quarter. People come together, catch up with friends, move, rest and simply enjoy being outdoors beside the sea. There is no pressure to complete all 108 Sun Salutations, it’s about just taking part in whatever way feels right for you. Being able to support a charity at the same time makes the evening even more meaningful.’
All proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to charity, with an additional donation box available on the evening for those who wish to contribute further.
