Coors Light announces finalists in search for next big DJ from Northern Ireland

The four finalists of a new competition giving aspiring DJs in Northern Ireland the opportunity to kickstart their career behind the decks have been announced.

‘DJ Academy’, a new contest created by Coors Light and Mixmag, asked budding bedroom DJs across Northern Ireland to submit a 30 minute mix to enter, with the two final winners receiving:

  • Flights to London to record their own mix at Mixmag’s custom club, The Lab LDN. The Lab takes place every Friday and has featured sets from the likes of Saoirse, Goldie, Kornél Kovács, Chase & Status, Call Super, Patrick Topping, Artwork, Annie Mac and more.

  • A music industry lunch with a panel of DJs, journalists and PRs who will advise them on modern day tips on how to develop their career, push production and amplify bookings.

  • Three gigs booked by Mixmag, who will also provide press shots and artists bios for each winner.

  • An Allen & Heath XONE 43C Mixer worth £650.00.

Hundreds of aspiring DJs from up and down NI entered the contest, and now the four finalists who will be battling it out to be crowned winner at the live final in Thompsons on Thursday October 10 have been announced as Stephan Agbogbe from Belfast, Tiernan Petticrew from Belfast, Caoimhe Moreland from Antrim, and Eddy Kennedy from Belfast.

Coors Light Customer Marketing Manager Denise Catney said, “At Coors Light we’re always proud to support the DJs and musicians who help create our culture, which is why we teamed up with Mixmag to discover the best untapped talent these shores have to offer and support them as they take their career to the next level.

“We’ve been completely overwhelmed by the number of entries we received from amazing local DJs, and I’d like to take the opportunity to thank everyone who entered DJ Academy and say a massive congratulations to our four finalists – I think it’s fair to say that despite our small size Northern Ireland is still producing some of the best talent in the world!,” added Denise.

Nick Stevenson, Managing Director at Mixmag added, “The quality of mixes we received for DJ Academy has been out of this world, and I can’t wait to hear what our four finalists will pull out of the bag at the live final in Thompson’s on Thursday October 10.

“If you’re part of the clubbing scene in NI, then this is your chance to come along and hear, what we believe, are four of the most exciting new DJs coming out of NI as they battle it out to be crowned one of our winners”, he added.

The live final of DJ Academy will take place on Thursday October 10 at Thompson’s in Belfast. Doors open from 8:00PM and Coors Light will be giving away a free bottle of beer to the first 200 entrants on the night.
