Now that January is here, I thought it was a good time to brighten up these rather dreary post-Christmas days with a look to the top trending interiors looks for 2018. The refreshing thing is, there are plenty of new ideas around that you can get stuck into planning for when Spring time decorating comes around!
First off, let’s talk about the hot new interiors paint colour for 2018 – sage green. It’s a very easy-on-the-eye and versatile colour to introduce into the home, as it blends in effortlessly with the usual greys and off-whites, but also looks fabulous teamed with soft pink and when offset with furnishings in tan leather, pale wood and warm metallics such as brass and aged gold. For a subtle grey-green, opt for Farrow & Ball’s French Gray or Mellow Sage by Crown. For a calming, restful, yet modern feel, sage green is always a winner.
2018 is set to be the year of the ‘fifth wall’, whereby ceilings will be getting a little well-deserved decor attention. This look can be carried off in a number of ways, depending on the final result you wish to achieve. So, for a more subtle look, ceilings are being painted a shade darker than the walls; for a more dramatic effect, the ceiling can be painted in a deep, moody indigo or charcoal (particularly suited to period properties with intricate cornicing detail which can be left white), or for homes with their picture rails intact, how about painting from the picture rail up to the ceiling in a darker shade, as seen in the bedroom pictured here? Whatever your opinions on this decor trend, you can expect to see a lot of it in the coming months.
Another increasingly growing trend is the luxe bathroom, with home owners investing in spa-like fittings and accessories to create an oasis of calm in the home. Pinterest is crammed full of beautiful bathing spaces kitted out with luscious, leafy plants, gorgeous hammam-inspired cotton towels and toiletries decanted into elegant glass bottles. Achieve the look with woven baskets filled with rolled towels, lots of candles and a striking Moroccan rug for added texture and colour. Finally, don’t forget a rustic stool or chair by the bath for popping your book and glass of wine onto during those long soaks! We all need to make the time for these little luxuries to indulge in… it is January, after all…
Wishing you a happy and healthy 2018.
