Cycling Fun Day on the Comber Greenway!

Sustrans are holding a family friendly cycling fun day on Sunday 14th April at Billy Neill MBE Soccer Centre of Excellence from 11am to 3pm.

There will be a wide range of activities for all the family and the Sustrans team will have an information stand to answer any of your questions. Visitors will be able to find out about cycling routes and the spring programme of FREE cycling and walking activities at the Active Travel Hub at CS Lewis Square.

Get the kids involved with ‘Ditch the Stabilisers’, an exciting and interactive training session for children to practice their cycling skills.  Working with parents and children, we take off the stabilisers and children learn to cycle with confidence.  The popular sessions will run from 11am to 12pm and 12:30pm to 1:30pm so booking is essential, contact Sustrans on the details below.

If you already have a bike but aren’t quite sure how to maintain it, come along to our Bike Maintenance session from 2pm – 3pm where you can learn how to replace a tube, mend a puncture and keep your bike in tip top roadworthy condition.  Again this is really popular so booking is essential.

Adults and children alike can even get their hands dirty with ‘Plant & Grow’.  The Conservation Volunteers will help you to plant your own seeds including peas and salad vegetables – you can then take them home and watch them grow! After all this activity you will be ready for some refreshments and there are even competitions to win cycling prizes.

The cycling fun day is part of Sustrans €4.4m CHIPS project (Cycle Highways Innovation for Smarter People Transport and Spatial Planning) to improve cycling infrastructure and encourage active travel. The project has delivered a number of programmes focused in East Belfast to support and enable more people to cycle to work.

Sustrans are currently carrying out a Travel Survey to find out which of these initiatives have been effective and how we can continue to encourage people to cycle as part of their everyday travel.  You can complete the survey online at As a thank you for completing the survey, there are several prizes to be won including a Hilden Brewery and Bike Tour for two people, courtesy of Belfast City Bike Tours. Just leave your e-mail address at end of survey to have a chance to win.
