Saturday 1st July sees the launch of the new ‘Bottomless Brunch’ at Horatio Todd’s, and we were lucky enough to receive a sneak preview last weekend. The ever popular bar and eatery on the Upper Newtownards Road has a well-deserved reputation for serving excellent food complimented by a wide range of delightful cocktails, and so it was with a suitable sense of anticipation that we arrived at brunch time (11.30am if you’re wondering!) to sample the new menu.
The manager of Horatio Todd’s, Emma, explained to us that the ‘Bottomless Brunch’ is common in top bars and restaurants in places such as London and Dubai, the idea being that customers are served delicious food accompanied by a bottomless supply of prosecco, mimosas, and Bloody Marys, making it the perfect way to blow the cobwebs away on a weekend morning.
The menu is a mix of the classics, such as Todd’s take on the Ulster Fry, through to minute steak and Mexican style breakfast dishes. I plumped for one of these, the Heuvos Rancheros, and was rewarded with a crispy tortilla bowl containing a warm and spicy chorizo and tomato salsa, two poached eggs on top, with sour cream and guacamole on the side. My brunch companion went for classic French toast with bacon and maple syrup. These tasty treats were nicely helped along by copious amounts of prosecco, and I also sampled the amazingly spicy yet smooth Bloody Mary, itself almost a meal in a glass!
The food and service were both excellent, and with so much competition for brunch in such a thriving area as Ballyhackamore, Horatios are offering a unique experience here which is bound to be a great success.
